Hammarby Sjöstad is a 10,000 home eco friendly town extension to Stockholm, thought by many to be the most holistically sustainable piece of urban development in the world. Richard Mullane produced and directed a 25 minute documentary while working for Design for Homes in 2008. The film was funded in partnership with a host of the companies that built Hammarby, including Envac, Skanska, The City of Stockholm Planning Department, architects and developers. The film, which documents the history of the development and 'low carbon' life for contemporary residents, has received wide industry acclaim, with screenings to city design and planning professionals in London, Paris and Stockholm. The film has been translated into Mandarin, Spanish and French, over 10,000 DVDs have so far been distributed worldwide and it continues to be used for professional training across the UK.
